Development of Medical Diagnosis in Space
One of the most recent breakthroughs because of research in space is the use of fluid flow concept to advance infectious disease diagnoses. Infectious diseases include diseases such as HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. A new medical-testing device is being tested and prepared in space to be effective in diagnosing diseases.

This instrument is a capillary flow experiment that uses capillary action to test the liquid inside the instrument. Since there is microgravity in space the use of capillary action is the most effective way to investigate liquids in great detail.
Mark Weislogel is one of the researchers who was working on testing this medical device in space, he explains that the capillary force operating in microgravity enables researchers to conduct investigations into the special dynamics of the fluid’s behavior. |
This behavior can be translated in to the properties and the boundary of a liquid given its conditions. There is also a solid which the liquid interacts with in this instrument and depending on the interaction can tell a lot about the liquid. This interaction is what detects and diagnoses disease within human blood or urine.

This technological breakthrough of using energy free diagnosis is something that the medical community is looking forward to. This new medical-testing device that is being developed and tested in space will have advantages to areas of the world were energy and electricity is not easily accessible.
